Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

gnome-system-tools 2.30.0-0ubuntu2 on 10.04 LTS

Changing a user ID or group ID from the Users and Groups administration
tool has no effect on the user or group.

1) Create a new user
2) Complain that you can't pick a UID while creating that user
3) Select the newly created user and click Advanced Settings
4) Assign a new ID on the Advanced tab and click OK
5) Wait a moment while the tool fools you into thinking it is doing something
6) Close the User Settings tool
7) check the user ID from the command line... id has not changed
