I'm experiencing the same issue. After the upgrade from Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubunto 10.04 I had a lot of problem with touchpad. Then I reinstalled Ubuntu from the CD and now the touchpad is not detected. It worked find with 9.10, so it's a regression.
