I will post it into Brainstorm. It's not pointless because I suggest enabling SSL primarly for FreeNode (and maybe other supporting networks as well). Also, it may be in the user's interest to communicate encrypted even if there are public logs available (for instance, if only the ISP or people who the user shares a WLAN with shouldn't be able to read the chat)
