WPA is now working for me on both Intel chipsets. It turns out that I was having router problems as well as software problems. I did the wpa_supplicant upgrade along with associated libraries, but also got the router properly reconfigured at about the same time. So I cannot honestly say what did the trick. At any rate, wireless now seems to be working properly. Thanks everyone!
