Hi, I have the same problem. My internal mic for recording is somehow disconnected, including in applications like skype. Using alsamixer and boosting the volume allows me to hear that the mic is working but that's all I can do with it. And this since the upgrade to 10.04.
Before pulse, I was able to individually select my devices: choose the usb speakers to output the sound from one application, while listening to music on my headset using another application, and so on. Now I'm not sure my usb works independently (don't have it with me so I can't check). Alsamixer allowed before the choosing of the input devices. Now, as has been said before, it doesn't. I'm not sure If there are any files i should attach. If anybody knows, please let me know. Is there any manual or tutorial anywhere explaining the interactions between pulse, alsa and the devices, in such a way that it provides a practical view on how to indidually manipulate them, or at least who is controlling what? How can we check to what device are the computer volume controls connected?
