Charlie, I have the same problem as the user who posted the bug, although I'm using 8.04 LTS with kernel 2.6.24-27.
It's a very annoying bug because you don't really know if it's because a bug in the kernel or a hardware failure. Both options sound possible to me ... Do you want me to post some more information ?
