Just tried desktop-beta. Same problems, Live System won't start. BusyBox again reports: "/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off (initramfs)".
I removed quiet from the kernel boot line to see more details. Kernel did load, also some drivers like ata_piix (which is the correct chipset driver for my mainboard). HD drives where found, but there seems to be a problem with the CD drive (seen from Linux, not as hardware). Unfortunately I can't scroll back into the console, but it seems the system tried sdd for the CD drive. This can't be correct because I have totally 4 disc devices plus 1 DVD device: 2x IDE (hda, hdb), 1x SATA (sda), 1x SCSI (sdb), plus IDE DVD (hdc). IMO the DVD shouldn't be sdd, isn't it. Using BusyBox I found a file casper.log, containing this text: "Running /scripts/casper-premount ... Done. Done. Unable to find a medium containing a live file system (initramfs) _ " I'll reinstall from the alternate-beta CD later this evening. -- cannot install from Herd-5 cd, install does hang before it begins https://launchpad.net/bugs/94044 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
