Argh, this is exactly why it is so utterly frustrating to report bugs to
Ubuntu. First you report what's wrong and also point to upstream patch
to fix the problem. Then you're ignored for weeks until an automated bot
posts standard boiler plate comment which contains some questions. For
all the questions the answer could be obtained if somebody actually
bothered to read the initial bug report. Yes, it still affects the
release in question (2.3.31 in karmic) until the linked patch is applied
and yes, it's fixed by upstream so it's not affecting lucid or later
releases. How hard can it be? What's the point of filing bug reports if
nobody really reads them and all you get is some automated nonsense and
then the bug is closed?
