The areas in inkscape which display swatches are translucent in Maverick and makes them invisible when whatever is behind the window is white. I will attach a screenshot illustrating this. In the screenshot, as you can see, the top shows inkscape in front of a white background, the bottom showing inkscape in front of a black background.
