Good summary! FYI, we have reverted the signature in our source tree,
but an update with the fix hasn't been released yet. It should be
released in the next kernel update.

On how to figure out the new protocol, we probably need to watch what
windows does. This is tricky though. The best bet would probably be to
fake the device in qemu/kvm, and then watch to see how windows
communicates with it. However, this is beyond my knowledge.
