Btw - there are related long standing bugs which have been open for an incredibly long time - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/501950 for eg, and it appears that I am not the only user having these troubles. I am a fairly technical user and am willing to put in the time to chase / triage this user but I dont want to spend any time on this unless someone from canonical is going to look into this.
