Public bug reported:

The latest maverick update makes apt-get segfault at the end of an
install/purge operation. The operation seems to work fine though, so
package manipulation is not broken.

I tried debugging using gdb. I received this output instead of the
normal "Segmentation fault" when running it directly:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x00007ffff6eea17f in __fprintf_chk () from /lib/libc.so.6

I couldn't "list" as there were no symbols in the binary.
