Confirming kernel 2.6.35-020635rc1-generic #020635rc1 SMP does _NOT_ fix problem. No onscreen display of screen brightness utility. Screen boots to maxmimum brightness even if brightness turned down during post. In fact, this kernel make laptop screen flicker.
