Hi Gregoriz. In my post #22 I meant to say that you probably need to modify the gtkrc of the theme which you are using, in order to change the property value below from 0 to 1: GtkRange::trough-under-steppers = 1
For example, if you are using the Ambiance theme you should edit (as root) the file /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/grkrc and change the property above on line #41. I've seen the other problem that you are facing too (emacs does not respond to any command) and my workaround is the same as yours: click on a menu.
