bebertii:

I also have an rt2500 that complains too much with the 2.6.32 kernel.

You can turn off the dmesg spam from rt2500 by adding the following line to
/etc/rc.local:
'iwconfig wlan0 power off' without the quotes, of course.
This disables 2.6.32 kernel's futile, possibly un-intended (my guesses),
attempts to control rt2500 power management.

I don't understand why the 'freeze some time' happens for you. You
should probably try to find out more specifically what's causing the
freezes. For example, see if the sheer volume of stuff in /var/log has
anything to do with the freeze. dmesg and kern.log are keeping every
last one of these little complaints.

In my case, I am unaware of any performance problem if this is just ignored.
Similarly, I am unaware of any problem from turning off the spam. So I do.
