Removed mainline tag. See comment #2. I tried on an alternative laptop with a built-in MMC reader, running Ubuntu 10.04. I couldn't reproduce the problem, although I have mucked about with the mini-SD so much that I am think I might have made the problem "go away", rather than "fixed."
