Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plymouth

I have tried most if not all of the Plymouth themes - the results are always
the same. Using the Script theme as an example:
 1) the splash screen is correct for about 8 seconds, the log is in the middle
of the screen;
 2) then goes black;
 3) then the splash screen re-appears, but now the logo is almost twice as
large and is positioned at the bottom right of the screen, partially off the
screen.
 4) then the Gnome desktop appears.
It is my understanding that the resolution and splash screen should stay
constant throughout the boot process - it certainly does not look pleasing with
the above behaviour.

I have set the contents of /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash to
"FRAMEBUFFER=y" - which caused to Plymouth to work (to the extent it
does). Other changes (e.g. i915.modeset=0/1) have not made a difference.

The exact same thing happens with a simple background with centered logo
- i.e. not using a progress bar or any callbacks.

We are using Ubuntu 10.04 Server edition, to which I have added a
minimal Gnome system. The system's purpose is to run as a dedicated
appliance running a single GUI application.

Plymouth appears to be version 0.8.2 from the LTS repository.

Let me know what other information is needed.

Thank you - Richard
