Sorry for not "responding" but I didn't want to insult anyone's intelligence. If fixed I would have reported. Just upgraded to 10.04 LTS version and slide show.pps now works. No hang up and black screen. Although it works, still unable to just "open" slide show and examine or edit slides. Note that slide show.ppt after clicking slide show icon opens and you can edit or examine slides. I was just notified about important security update by update Manager. But after clicking install updates it froze. System monitor reports it as slipping. Tried several times during last two days but it doesn't work.
