I have the same problem, I can manually disable the speakers by clicking on System->Preferences->Sound->Output then click on the drop box and select "Analogue Output" instead of "Analogue Speakers" This allows sound only through the headphone jack or through speakers and jack when "Analogue Speakers" is selected.
