I have the same problem with Ubuntu 10.04 with all the updated packages installed. It just can't do any intensive tasks. It just freezes after doing some multimedia tasks or simply having opened too many tabs in my firefox. I'm moving back to Windows 7 as well... :( Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 were fine.
