It's telling the user exactly what it says.  That the package previous
was unselected, and is now being selected for installation.  It's
basically dpkg reporting on the toggling of /var/lib/dpkg/status states.
It may not be the most informative thing ever to the average home user,
but there's a reason why the terminal is hidden behind an expanding
arrow in the GUIs. :)

Given that, as you say, the German translation being used here means
"unselected", I'd say it's translated correctly compared to what the
English is trying to convey.
