Hi Jeremy - I'm very sorry I couldn't get back to you on this sooner, I've been writing a university dissertation and haven't had time for anything else (although doing this didn't take very long in the end).
Anyway, as I write this apport-collect is running. As for the state of sound on Lucid Lynx, I'm afraid the situation is worse than it ever has been for me - the volume control simply says "---" - and when I try to open Sound Preferences a message comes up saying "Waiting for sound system to respond". Naturally, nothing comes out of the speakers. I've marker this bug as regressive in apport-collect due to the fact that it's gotten worse with the new release - but the bug has always been present.
