Ok, so I then ran the commands, the first ran fine - the second complained the file didn't exist, so I installed the netbeans package again via synaptic.
Now it starts :) Only minor thing is in the Programming menu in Applications, it's still listed as NetBeans IDE 6.7.1, with no logo! I can live with that though!
