I had exactly the same experience as Kyle Gordon-- unspecified error,
followed by the upgrade tool being verrrrrry slow.  But, after a reboot
the system worked perfectly, so whatever the dpkg error, it must not
have been severe.

Once rebooting into Feisty I did a manual apt-get clean and deleted over
a 100 packages; not sure if this was supposed to have been done by the
upgrade tool.

One thing that bothered me is that the estimated time left during
package downloads jumped around wildly, 50 minutes, 2 hours, 1 hour
30... would probably be better to keep a running average of download
speed and base the estimate off of that.
