Same issue here - USB sticks mount fine, CD-DRIVE won't mount on it's own. I have noticed that running KDE it works fine, only appears in the base gnome. This may have started after installing kubuntu on my machine for testing some things, I'm unsure.
Also, in the disk utility I can mount the drive just fine after putting a disc in. Also, when pressing eject on the drive, the tray comes out then immediately goes back in. t...@river:~$ sudo hdparm -I /dev/sr0 /dev/sr0: ATAPI CD-ROM, with removable media Model Number: ATAPI iHAS224 A Serial Number: Firmware Revision: ZL0P Transport: Serial, ATA8-AST, SATA 1.0a, SATA II Extensions, SATA Rev 2.5, SATA Rev 2.6 Standards: Likely used CD-ROM ATAPI-1 Configuration: DRQ response: 50us.
