While Ubuntu's latest Edgy distro could be configured to print to my networked OfficeJet 7210, neither the xSane nor Kooka scanning applications could find the OfficeJet as a scanning device.
There is a fix, however. Download and install the latest incarnation of hplip (1.7.3) from http://hplip.sourceforge.net/downloads.html. This release is substantially more recent than the version packaged with latest version of Edgy. During the installation process, you probably will encounter some dependency warnings and and some "Postfix" questions pertaining to mail. But if you've had a modest amount of Linux experience, none of these should prove daunting. I should add that I ran the installation as "sudo" and have not attempted to run it as an ordinary user. As the installation finishes, you'll be presented with a graphical dialog asking a few questions about your OfficeJet print/fax/scan configuration, but all are pretty straightforward. -- sane/xsane crashes with hplip and officejet parallel printer/scanner https://launchpad.net/bugs/70681 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
