Hi Toby.  What you are seeing is consistent with what I am seeing.

I would bet that 'upowerd' is transmitting a dbus message every 20
seconds.

As an experiment kill the gnome-power-manager 'killall gnome-power-manager'.
Then run 'gnome-power-manager --verbose'.  You will get a detailed log of 
activity
on the command line.  Every 20 seconds or so you should get some output which
shows what the power manager is doing.

If you are really adventurous, you can do the same on upowerd.  'sudo killall 
upowerd'
Then sudo upowerd -v.  upowerd is the program that monitors the hardware for 
changes,
and gnome-power-manager is the one that reacts to the changes.

What we need now is someone to figure out why the memory is not being
freed... any volunteers ;-)
