I eventually solved this by switching the printer to a wired connection rather than wireless. Prints fine now. Switching back to wireless causes the same issue again. Wired and wireless printer connections both work in 32-bit Lucid. By wired connection I mean a wired connection to my router not to the computer itself. I still connect my computer wirelessly to my router.
