This is not a bug in language-selector.
There are two environment variables regarding language settings: LANG and
LANGUAGE.
LANGUAGE contains the dektop language, while LANG is for Text settings (if
LANGUAGE is not set, it will also set the dektop language). Some applications
seem to ignore the LANGUAGE variable, this is a bug in thoe application.
Please file a bug against those applications, for Firefox and Openoffice.org,
such bug reports already exist.
The bug is, that the LANGUAGE variable is not honored by those applications.
