Public bug reported: Dell has updated its Latitude laptop line and it appears that once again the touchpad is not correctly recognized.
/proc/bus/input/devices shows: I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0001 Version=0000 N: Name="PS/2 Generic Mouse" P: Phys=isa0060/serio1/input0 S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input14 U: Uniq= H: Handlers=mouse1 event14 B: EV=7 B: KEY=70000 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 B: REL=3 There may be an additional issue here: this laptop has a "pointing stick" or "touchpoint" too. That and the touchpad get mapped on the same input. If I open the device file I can see data when I use any of them. As expected the xorg synaptics driver will not work with this device: (--) Synaptics Touchpad: no supported touchpad found (EE) Synaptics Touchpad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware. This machine is one of the few laptop you can buy today without paying M$, at least in Italy. I think it's important to have it supported well. Anything I can do to help, just ask.
