I think we should stop adding a comment each time this issue starts /
stop occuring : the problem with this particular issue is indeed that
no-one seems to have figured out how to reproduce it reliably. It
happens, then stops for a few days / weeks then happens again.

What is obvious is that the scope of this bug is very wide, does affect
most people one day, and is extremely annoying for "joe users" that
won't have the idea to do a "killall gnome-panel" or "shutdown -h" etc.

What we urgently need is to establish a reliable protocol to pinpoint
this issue, as soon as possible... This is most concerning something
that seems to be very superficial isn't fixed several months about the
LTS release. (I don't want to blame anyone, though, I'm aware many devs
do code in their spare time)
