Doing an upgrade from lucid seemed to not cause an issue with my printer, because now it works whereas before I tried it using the alpha 2 of maverick with all the updates and it wouldn't work. Here is the hp- check log from now; it complains about a few missing dependencies but the printer works anyway. I had to reinstall my system from last time so I don't have any of the logs from then :(
