After updating to newest wine and Ubuntu Lucid:

 lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release: 10.04

apt-cache policy wine1.2
wine1.2:
  Installed: 1.2~rc7-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 1.2~rc7-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 1.2~rc7-0ubuntu2 0

I was able to download (in Ubuntu via User Agent Switcher in Firefox,
where Default is Internet Explorer 8, otherwise Adobe bricks the install
claiming one is not using the correct OS) install and run the trial of
Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended briefly. I scanned to PDF with OCR
functionality working perfectly via HP Officejet 5610v. I closed the
program, then re-opened it, and after completing a second, OCR PDF scan
I got among many messages:

"Licensing for this product has stopped working. You cannot use this
product at this time. You must repair the problem by uninstalling and
then reinstalling this product or contacting your IT administrator or
Adobe customer support for help."

At this point, this bug is considered closed.
