This bug report has been assigned to the plymouth package, but there's
no information here that directly points to that package's involvement.
Did your laptop boot correctly with 2.6.32-21-generic, the version in
the 10.04 LTS release?  Does the system boot correctly if booting
without the 'splash' option on the kernel commandline?
