I see this also on ZaReason's new Terra HD laptops.  I've sent them this
bug.

This isn't upower's problem; it's the ACPI implementation (MSFT-compiled; 
huzzah for brokenness!):
$ cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID0/state 
state:      closed

So there we go.  Za can probably get at this via a BIOS update like they
fixed the suspend&resume problem.  However, I doubt sony's gonna do it,
so this should be fixed, wine-style (i.e. we're trying to build software
that does ACPI like Windows).
