I just had to restore some data from a bad HD (read errors on my laptop). When copying from the NTFS partition to my new NTFS partition (files, not image, and in Linux), I got about 7-8 MB/sec of throughput, and a responsive system.
When doing from EXT4 to EXT4, I was getting about 20MB/sec and terrible responsiveness. I will say that overall it is less problematic than it has been though, no total lock, and I can run my updates and surf the web fairly effectively. This is using 10.10, so it looks like the bug is still around. -- Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
