Unfortunately, nothing in the thread online works for getting a screenshot anymore. However, through a bit of luck I noticed that x11vnc can connect to a GDM session with:
x11vnc -display :0 -auth /var/run/gdm/auth-for-gdm-Vj6ZZp/database Where the auth path will change a bit for each restart of GDM.
