Anthony, I can see you have a package from the Cutting Edge Multimedia PPA installed (vdpau-video). Also, VLC_1.1.1-1exp1ubuntu1 does not need the package libvdpau1.
For correct operation of this VLC you also need the FFMPEG packages from the maverick repos (v. 4:0.6-2ubuntu2).
