Hello Robbie, If you plan to dive into this quagmire now you should have a look at bug 543506 as well (if you haven't already). It was marked a duplicate of this one. In 543506, Mike Bianchi posted some lines from his logs (May 26 email):

Why would /dev/console not be available?
