This problem STILL exists in Lucid. I found a forum post somewhere that has similar information to Sisternicky's post here. Here is what I did.
I followed the directions from Sisternicky - this WILL NOT WORK if you don't edit the values to "HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=y" and "HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=y". 1. "sudo su" instead of putting "sudo" in front of everything. 2. I took the interface down before "make install" with "ifconfig wlan0 down". 3. I then "rmmod rt2860sta" to unload the kernel module. 4. Now run "make install". 5. Do NOT edit anything, at this point you can just "modprobe rt2860sta" Done!
