This problem STILL exists in Lucid.

I found a forum post somewhere that has similar information to
Sisternicky's post here. Here is what I did.

I followed the directions from Sisternicky - this WILL NOT WORK if you
don't edit the values to "HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=y" and
"HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=y".

1. "sudo su" instead of putting "sudo" in front of everything.
2. I took the interface down before "make install" with "ifconfig wlan0 down".
3. I then "rmmod rt2860sta" to unload the kernel module.
4. Now run "make install".
5. Do NOT edit anything, at this point you can just "modprobe rt2860sta"

Done! WirelessManager automatically reconnected at 135 Mb/s
