Thanks John! Dell Latitude E6510 Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit SD Card reader now works!
previously the logging would show the same error -110...while initialising. I also boot verbosely and I would get the same mmc warning during boot up. mmc0: Unknown controller version (2). You may experience problems.
