Public bug reported:

In maverick, where I continue to choose to use grub legacy for its
simplicity, getting a kernel update where the image filename is updated
(an update to x or y in version 2.6.x-y.z) no longer triggers update-
grub. This means that I don't get the new kernel in my boot menu. This
has caused a problem where I purged the packages of the old kernel,
without the new one in the boot menu, so I am left with an unbootable
system (which was soon fixed by booting a live CD). I now need to
manually run update-grub after a new "y version" kernel to have it in
the menu.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
