Something similar here: Acer TravelMate 430 with Lucid 10.04.1 and
kernel 2.6.32-24-generic.

The system CPU is "halted" unless I move the mouse or press a key.

Using acpi=off as a kernel boot option solved the problem for me. I do
not have ACPI support anymore but at least I have a working system.

Maybe other acpi= options are also valid and less extreme.
