If this isn't fixed (I have no hardware with burning capability anymore
so can't test if the original bug actually is fixed or not) Then this is
a real goof for Ubuntu. This bug was initially posted while Lucid was
still in alpha (Where maverick is now) IMHO this should have received
attention before Lucid was released. As it is, it looks as if Maverick
will be released with the same problem. In which case I'm going to find
it really difficult to be recommending Ubuntu to anyone, when such
basic, expected functionality remains unfixed for so long.

I hate to sound ungrateful for all the great work done here, and as I
don't have the experience or skills to be fixing this myself, I just
have to hope that somebody recognises that this has greater than medium
importance for most users, and at least gets it assigned and fixed
before Maverick release.

The issue isn't about being able to burn with alternative software. The
default installation (which uses brasero) should work. If brasero can't
be made to behave, then it should be dropped for something which can.
