Happens to me sometimes. Is unpredictable as to when it will happen.
Today, it happened when I was playing around Compiz settings. After
trying to turn off "Wobble Window" and other settings, all applications
were moved to Desktop 1, the gnome panel on the top, in the indicator
applet, I no longer see the "Logout" button. Even my name is slightly
truncated. The "d" in my name appears as "c".

But this happened to me other times as well, when I have just logged in.
Sometimes, I see my login name overlap like "vinovinod". I reasoned
that since the login name has occupied the usual space for "Logout"
button, that button is off screen. But today's case and this bug report
proves otherwise. I guess my only option now is "kill -9 -1" or "sudo
shutdown now" in a gnome-terminal.

Please reopen this bug.
