this happens because when something just works somebody at ubuntu feels
the uncontrollable urge to mess things up...

explanation:
in ubuntu 10.04 developers have moved the nice values related to audio priority
from the limits.conf file to the /limits.d/audio.conf file BUT they didn't
update the jack audio connection kit package accordingly.

workaround:
navigate to /etc/security/limits.d/audio.conf file, open it, copy the desired
nice values, go one folder back, open the limits.conf file, paste the values in
the file and save it. start jack. done.

solution: update the jack audio connection kit package OR move the nice
values back to the limits.conf file.
