There are three issues here:
1. madwifi in Dapper allowed for the standard tools to change the mode, it
is no longer the case in Edgy: you need wlanconfig
2. wlanconfig was not supplied in Edgy
3. a hand-compiled version of the tool did not yield a working setup

Point no 2 seems solved in Feisty, thanks to new package madwifi-tools.
I can not test point no 3 as I had to find an alternative when Edgy broke my
setup.

Does this last comment mean you did test point no 3 and it worked? Or were
you just training your copy-and-paste skills, without reading my previous
comments?
