Public bug reported: Binary package hint: plymouth
If the default display resolution and refresh rate that the kernel should use, is specified with the "video" kernel option/parameter, plymouth does not use this resolution for the boot splash screen. The virtual terminals use this resolution and refresh rate. Without specifying this option, the virtual terminals also use the resolution/refresh rate that plymouth always uses, so it seems that plymouth ignores this option and automatically selects the largest resolution available (as should be the behavior when nothing is specified with the "video" option).
