Hi, I understand the need to see if the bug occurs in the latest kernel. I've tried the upstream kernel and it runs on the machine, and in the short while that I ran the machine (1 hour or so) the crash didn't occur.
Since this is a production machine, I need to keep it running on the full nvidia driver, but it doesn't appear to be supported by the upstream kernel, so I've had to roll back to keep both screens and good resolution running. Instead I'm now testing with a newer kernel from kernel.ubuntu.com (2.6.33) and it hasn't crashed so far today. I'll update on here if it appears to be a fix - but the crash is happening very sporadically.
