First of all, thanks for reporting bug and help us to make ubuntu better OS.

I have seen your case, we regret for not having a good experience with
ubuntu. For working on this bug we need some additional information on
your part..

1. Is the bug still exist with 10.04?
2. Please provide us the following output 
cat /proc/bus/input/devices > ~/devices
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log >~/Xorg.0.log

and attach these separately in attachments..

I cannot disable touchpad tapping because there is no option on the mouse 
preferences dalog and gsynaptics will not run.
